Leading Irish chef creates oatally delicious recipes

Jan 23, 2009
Leading Irish chef, Garrett Byrne has collaborated with Flahavans to create a selection of delicious recipes demonstrating the versatility of oats in cooking.

The mouth-watering recipes include Mussels baked with Oatmeal, Parsley and Garlic; Crusted Organic Salmon with Potato Cake and Herb sauce; Oatmeal and Apple Crumble and Oatmeal cookies, both favourites with kids.

Garrett has also created a tasty alternative to brunch, Oatmeal with Saffron, Golden Raisins and Pistachio, which can also be served with vanilla ice-cream as a dessert.

Garrett recently opened his new restaurant, Campagne, in his native Kilkenny with his partner Brid after spending five years as Head Chef in the Michelin stared Chapter One restaurant, Dublin. He was previously voted Chef of the Year and Best Dublin Chef in 2006.

“I am passionate about using locally produced quality raw ingredients in Campagne so I enjoyed creating and developing the recipes using Flahavan’s oats,” said Garrett. “Oats make an ideal ingredient for use in numerous recipes, adding flavour and texture. And everyone should know at this stage, oats are very healthy.”

Dolores Whelan, Brand Manager, Flahavan’s said, “Garrett has succeeded in demonstrating the versatility of our oats while exhibiting flair and imagination. He has produced an exquisite range of recipes, which people will enjoy creating and eating.”

Details of the recipes can be found on www.flahavans.com

Flahavan’s has been operating in Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford for over 200 years, spanning six generations, making it one of Ireland’s longest family-run businesses. Over one million servings of Flahavan’s porridge are consumed nationwide each week.
