Primary schools across the country are being called to get on board and register for Ireland’s annual School Game Playing Day on Friday, 28th October. The idea behind the day is for pupils to have fun playing board games while also raising money for their school or local charity.
Schools are being asked to allow children to bring €2 along with their favourite board games to play during class on the last day of school term. The funds raised can be used by the school itself or donated to a charity of their choice.
To register to take part in School Game Playing Day or for more information including useful tips and downloads for teachers, schools can log on to www.ngpw.ie, call (01) 6613533, or email games@hasbro.ie.
Now in it’s ninth year, School Game Playing Day is an initiative of toys and games company, Hasbro and is enjoyed by thousands of pupils around the country.
Each participating school receives six free top board games from Hasbro, all manufactured at its plant in Waterford.
Anne Dermody, Sales and Marketing Manager for Hasbro Ireland, said: “Apart from the many educational benefits of playing board games, it’s really all about having fun. We’re pleased once again to provide schools with this opportunity to have some fun in class, while also raising money for something they feel will best benefit the children.”
As an additional incentive to get involved, Hasbro will also be giving €200 towards the monies raised by the school in each county that shows it had the most fun on the day. “Each year we are both awed and inspired by the huge response from schools around the country with their creative and colourful entries of photographs, stories, collages, scrapbooks, poems and DVDs that demonstrate what the day meant to them,” she added.
School Game Playing Day is part of National Game Playing Week (NGPW), a week devoted to having fun playing board games, which runs this year from 28th October to 4th November.
