MONOPOLY, the world's favourite property trading game, has designated the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) as the ‘GO’ location on the new MONOPOLY Electronic Banking, Irish edition.
The RDS was identified with the help of Ordnance Survey Ireland, the National Mapping Agency.
Traditionally the ‘GO’ location on the Irish MONOPOLY board is situated in an unidentified location between Shrewsbury Road and Rathfarnham.
Anne Dermody, Sales & Marketing Manager of Hasbro Ireland said: ‘The new MONOPOLY Electronic Banking, Irish edition, which is made in our plant in Waterford, has once again been updated to reflect changes in Dublin’s landscape and now features The Convention Centre Dublin on the board. Players visualising the RDS as the point of ‘GO’ adds another exciting dimension to the game, which is constantly reinventing itself and still attracts huge interest and passion around the globe.’
According to Martin Creaton, Ordnance Survey Ireland: ‘We wanted to help MONOPOLY choose a site on the map between Shrewsbury Road and Rathfarnham that was as iconic as the game itself. Out of all of the locations in that area, the RDS is recognised nationally and internationally as a major cultural, sporting and entertainment venue. It’s also a very high profile site and was the most obvious choice on the map.’
Michael Duffy, Chief Executive of the RDS said: ‘We’re thrilled to be designated as the GO location on the new MONOPOLY Electronic Banking, Irish edition. The RDS is one of Dublin’s most well-known landmark venues and it’s fitting that it was chosen as the location of ‘GO’.
The MONOPOLY Electronic Banking, Irish edition replaces traditional MONOPOLY money with debit cards. Players can store their millions on their bankcard and then swipe the card to start buying, selling and trading Irish properties.
MONOPOLY is produced under the Parker brand by Hasbro Ireland at its plant in Waterford. About 2.7 million Monopolies, complete with 39 million MONOPOLY houses and 14.5 million MONOPOLY hotels, are currently produced a year. Over its 76 year history, it is estimated that MONOPOLY has been played by more that 1 billion people in 111 countries.
