"Someone Like Me"

Challenge

Walsh Public Relations was commissioned by the Department of Justice, Equality & Law Reform to manage and promote a primary schools essay competition entitled “Someone like Me”, to mark Ireland’s National Information Day on Disability.

Strategy

Our aim was to ensure that the management of the competition was inclusive, far reaching, professional and fair and to create an event that would focus around the children and celebrate their achievement.

Action

Our plan included creating a theme to capture the essence of the campaign and devising a transparent and effective judging structure that included involving specialist and high-profile individuals, as well as delivering a creative and targeted communications campaign to drive entries.

Results

Entries were received from schools in all 26 counties and the theme and objective of the project was universally acknowledged throughout the schools system. Parents, children and teachers were in full praise of the project and expressed huge enjoyment at the special awards ceremony that, as one teacher put it, “created an occasion that we never thought possible bringing a ray of sunshine that will remain in our memories forever.”
